This is quite odd, because there were no changes to mountoverflowtmp
between 2.88dsf-22 and 2.88dsf-22.1. It was an NMU of debconf
template translations only, and there were no changes to
mountoverflowtmp for a long time (years) prior to this.
In experimental in 2.88dsf-23, we did remove the mountoverflowtmp
script. Is it a possibility that you installed -23 and downgraded
to -22? It's a vague possibility that dpkg failed to reinstall
the conffile, and this resulted in update-rc.d failing due to the
script not being present.
I've not received any other reports of this problem to date, and
I can't yet reproduce the problem on my own systems--I never had
any problem with the 22.1 upgrade, and the -23 and -24 upgrades
from experimental have never caused any upgrade problems on my
test systems either.

Roger
