That script is a different point of view about the issue that is developed 
there are some years, it does not try to better or replicate yours.

About the question, maybe it that does not matter for the resulting 
functionality. ( I think it without having tried that)

other differences to note:
variable values drive the script for specific cases of every daemon.
The file lnet-service-defaults lists these variables, 
Now we have the opportunity to compare the functionality of both scripts and 
better them,

for example,
- your script returns error codes depending on different cases.
- my script introduces parameters for start, stop, reload. Reloads the daemon 
using a signal or executing the daemon reload, ...
