IMHO, we should never mess with sleep(some seconds) in this kind of utility.
IME, they're almost always security devices:  Either they ensure the message
can be seen, or throttle down what would become a runaway process otherwise
in some failure modes, or throttle down repeated attempts at breaking the
password...

But yes, a comment would have been really nice...
