Well, as far as I can tell, as you will see from the fairly detailed log in
the r-sig-debian post I referenced, it was _clearly broken under tk_8.4.16-1_
was got resolved under tk_8.4.16-2 from unstable.

| We'll try to fix tcl8.4 first.
I know that tcl matters for tk, but as far as R is concerned, I really need a
better shlibs so that R ends up with the Depends line suggest above, ie
tk8.4 (>= 8.4.16-2)
Let me know if I can be of any help here as far as testing from R is involved.
