I can't reproduce this. The only references to strtod in build log are
the following lines from configure output:

checking for strtod... yes
checking proper strtod implementation... ok
checking for strtod... (cached) yes
checking for Solaris2.4/Tru64 strtod bugs... ok

If you will find the cause of the bug, please add a message to this bug thread.
