It uses 8.5.0.a5-3v1ubuntu0. That was the problem. I have just installed
version 8.5.2 from testing, and the ttk::widgets now work.

that problem was also fixed with 5.2.0.
Thank you very much for your help and sorry for the noise (I should have
checked first whether I had the latest version :)
