Well, at least it would break AOLserver which requires a non-threaded edition.
Note that it requires a thereaded lib at building time, it does not use
the Tcl interpreter per se as such.

I would suggest a double build with a thread and a non-threaded edition for 8.4,
but that would be equally ugly. But, at least 8.4 is still supported...
