Hi,

I just noticed at http://wiki.debian.org/DebianTclTk that you are
interested in helping with Tcl maintainance. That is very welcome,
since we are understaffed.

Current tasks:

 * Rebuilding and testing packages in experimental to use tcl/tk 8.5.

The intended default tcl/tk version for squeeze is 8.5 for many
reasons. To avoid making the Release Team’s life into a nightmare,
we are staging the result of this change in experimental first, so
that once it is time to make the change “for real” it can be done
very quickly without interfering too much with other integration work.

Test results from local builds (accompanied with a patch indicating
how these builds were carried out) are very much welcome.

   http://wiki.debian.org/Teams/DebianTclTk/UpgradeDefaultTclTkTo85
has the current status and some examples.

 * Dealing with packages that require a single-threaded tcl.

Currently Debian tcl8.4 is multithreaded and tcl8.3
single-threaded. So most packages that depend on tcl8.3 (or tk8.3,
or expect-tcl8.3) actually only care that it is a single-threaded
   interpreter.

Investigation is needed to see if these packages would work okay
with a single-threaded Tcl 8.4 or even 8.5. Packaging work is
needed to make a single-threaded Tcl 8.4 or 8.5 available.

 * Anything else that looks broken. Good bug reports and patches are
   always welcome!

Sorry to take so long to notice your message. Feel free to let me
know if there is anything I can do to help.

Regards,
Jonathan
