[Pkg-tcltk-devel] On removing Tcl/Tk 8.3

Hi!

I'd like to show the current state of removing Tcl/Tk 8.3 from Debian squeeze.

There remains only 9 packages with strict dependency on Tcl/Tk 8.3 (the other
list tcl8.3 or tk8.3 as alternatives):

1) catdoc (see [1] for a bugreport)
2) hanzim (see [2] for a bugreport)
3) isdnutils (see [3] for a bugreport)
4) megahal (see [4] for a bugreport)
5) sauce (see [5] for a bugreport)
6) tkdvi (see [6] for a bugreport)
7) vbox3 (see [7] for a bugreport)
8) xconq (see [8] for a bugreport)
9) xpvm (see [9] for a bugreport)

It's easy to deal with catdoc (it doesn't really depend on a specific
Tcl/Tk) and
tkdvi (it's a dead project, so removing it from Debian should be OK).

I've looked also at hanzim (it works with 8.5 but its look changes) and sauce
(works also).

xconq doesn't work with Tcl/Tk 8.4 and 8.5, and I couldn't port it
withing an hour, so I guess it's better to remove it completely
(upstream doesn't
seem to continue developing - the last CVS commit was almost 6 years ago).

For the other 4 packages I can't say if they require nontrivial work
to port them
to 8.5.

The last bugreports were sent only today, so I think that after some
delay (about
a week) I'll raise severity of these bugs to 'serious' and will either
NMU or ask
release managers to remove the package completely.
