[Pkg-tcltk-devel] Request for help: tcltk-defaults build-rdeps in experimental

Hi Tclers,

If I understand it, the current Tcl/Tk plan looks like this:

 1. Update the default Tcl/Tk version to 8.5
 2. Change packages explicitly using version 8.4 to use 8.5
(or better, to use the default version)
 3. Drop multi-thread support for 8.4
 4. Change packages that require a single-threaded tcl to use 8.4
(or better, to depend on "tcl-nothreads" or something).

Part 1 requires a few steps:

. Update tcltk-defaults in experimental to 8.5 (done).
 . Rebuild tcltk-defaults build-rdeps in experimental. (*)
 . Test like crazy.
. Upload the new tcltk-defaults to sid and coordinate a mass-binnmu
   campaign with the release team.

Step (*) is being tracked at

  http://wiki.debian.org/Teams/DebianTclTk/UpgradeDefaultTclTkTo85

Bugs have been filed for about half of the relevant packages, which is
a bit slower of a rate than I would like. Maybe it would be worth
trying a simple mass bug filing instead of preparing patches as I have
been so far.

Help filing and dealing with the remaining bugs, ideas to speed up the
process, and any other thoughts would also be appreciated.

Yours,
Jonathan
