[Pkg-telepathy-maintainers] Bug#511439: empathy doesn't show UI

Just installed empathy on Debian lenny (fresh install) and tried to start it. It didn't exit, but didn't show any UI whatsoever either. Used empathy-accounts to add and enable a Salut account; didn't make any difference.

Steps to reproduce:
1. EMPATHY_DEBUG=all empathy

Expected:
Show any kind of user interface. According to [1], it should show the "Empathy Main Window".

Got:
Only debug output. No new window, no dock icon, nothing.

Additional info:
I'm using ion3 as window manager. None of the usual "desktop environments" (KDE, Gnome, etc.) has been installed.
