A chat window cannot be opened from the contact list window. I have tried with a double-click on a contact as well as with a right-click and then "Chat". In both cases the following message appears on the debug window (empathy-debugger; curiously, appears under file transfer):

    ensure_text_channel_cb: Failed to ensure text channel: Not implemented

Note that this happens both in gnome-shell and in other window-managers, making it unusable unless you're being talked to when using gnome-shell.

If I instead go into "gnome-contacts", it does work as expected.
