[Pkg-telepathy-maintainers] Bug#704232: regressions in empathy, audio/video not working

Package: empathy
Version: 3.4.2.3-2
Severity: important

Audio and video calls between empathy users were working reliably until
a few weeks ago

Testing again now, with two hosts running the latest wheezy code
(updated with apt-get dist-upgrade), calls are failing

I've enabled logging:

$ G_MESSAGES_DEBUG=all EMPATHY_PERSIST=1 EMPATHY_DEBUG=all empathy

and the output around the time of failure looks like this:

(empathy:8499): tp-glib/misc-DEBUG: call_state_changed_cb: Call state
changed to initialising (flags: 0)
(empathy:8499): tp-glib/misc-DEBUG: content_removed_cb: Content removed:
/org/freedesktop/Telepathy/Connection/gabble/jabber/daniel_40pocock_2ecom_2eau_2fc36b5105/CallChannel2/Content_audio_1
(empathy:8499): tp-glib/misc-DEBUG: call_state_changed_cb: Call state
changed to ended (flags: 0)

The calling window appears, the webcam lights come on, there is a delay
for a couple of seconds and then the window goes into the hangup state.

>From another machine, the user observes similar log entries, but they
get the popup: "There was an error starting the call" and no other details

None of the messages in the log are more severe than the `DEBUG' level.

The server is ejabberd on Debian squeeze.
