Hi
I just want you to know that I have been working a bit on the java
implementation.
What I have been able to do is to build the Java implementation, make a
separate package for that and install it.
I have also been able to make Xvnc serve the files and have been able (with
a lot of struggle) to connect to it using firefox.
- One problem is that google chrome do not allow java at all. It does not
even allow the java plugin.
- Another problem is that the class files are self signed and thus are not
allowed by default. You have to add the url to a special exception list.
I was prompted with a password and I could see the screen. The problem here
is that the applet size is 32x32 and that is not a very useful display
size...
By hitting reload on the window I could enter an option tab but there I
could not resize the window.
So I tried the 1.6.0 version as it mentions a lot of Java work. It is
better because when I run it from command line I can in fact get the option
to resize the window and then it is useful.
My concluions are:
1) Usefulness is limited due to lack of browser support, but still it may
be useful.
2) 1.5.0 version do not work good enough, neither as applet nor as command
line tool.
3) 1.6.0 version may work better. It works good enough on command line but
as I have not built the full source I can not judge the applet part.
Preliminary it is not good enough.
So for now I do not think we should include the java build support but it
would be good for the future.
I'll save the patch file so we can repeat this in the future. I'll commit
some changes that can be done regardless whether we include it or not.
Best regards
// Ola
