Hi all,
members of the Debian Edu team (esp. Dominik George and me) have set a
new team on Alioth addressing all aspects for remote (graphical) work
on Debian systems.
These days, too much focus is put on hardware oriented graphical
rendering (Wayland, Mir, client-side compisiting, compositing effects
in desktop environments, mail clients that require OpenGL, etc.).
Several of those recent techniques and software being optimized for
them make it hard for people who want to use such software / desktop
environments over remote connections.
We feel that Debian needs a task force that is aware of remote
graphical work and that makes sure desktop software in Debian is
capable of being used from remote. Thus, we set up this new Debian
Remote Maintainers team.
Instead of maintainers working on their "remote" software package by
themselves or in a small team, I'd like to propose bundling forces and
expertise under a greater umbrella. I think that tigervnc is a proper
candidate for this team, too.
What do you think?
Mike
PS: Software already in the team context:
xrdp
guacomole (not-yet-uploaded)
x2goclient
PPS: Software to be migrated to the team:
all X2Go components (incl. NXv3, soon to be uploaded)
freerdp(2)
PPPS: Future packages:
all Arctica Project components (for Debian 10)
