hal.postrm has

if [ "$1" = "purge" ] ; then
        deluser --quiet --system haldaemon > /dev/null || true
        rmdir /var/run/hal || true
fi

That's why I suggested to remove haldaemon from floppy,cdrom,plugdev and
powerdev again

Ok, so we do agree here to replace h-d-m with g-d-m. Sjoerd, what's your
opinion on this?

If we go this route this means we upload hal-0.5.9 without the
hal-device-manager package and at the same time release g-d-m.
Should we add Conflicts/Replaces(/Provides) to the new g-d-m package to
enforce the removal of the old h-d-m package then? It's technically not
necessary as they can coexist peacefully.
