afaik this is a problem within the vpnc plugin, not NM itself.
Does it help, if you edit /etc/dhcp3/dhclient.conf and add
	
supersede domain-name "mydomain";
prepend domain-name-servers 192.168.0.1; (or whatever your ip address is)
