"autoauth" is my own, and should not be relevant. Note that just simple
"dhclient3 eth2" (when n-m is down) works just fine.

I've added it, but it does not seem to make a dhcdbd.log. It does so when I
run dhclient3 automatically, though.

I straced dhcdbd and got, among others, the following:
