Hi Rafael,
please always CC 448619 at bugs.debian.org on your replies!
Your report sounds very strange.
To summarize, running "NetworkManager --no-daemon" works just fine
according to your reply unless you haven't included the complete output.
I can't see, why "/etc/init.d/network-manager start" should fail, otherwise.
Please reboot your system, stop NetworkManager
("/etc/init.d/network-manager stop") and then run
NetworkManager --no-daemon || echo "error staring NM".
Please send me the complete output.
Do you have any suspicious output in /var/log/(messages,syslog)?
Have you modified anything in /etc/dbus-1/system.d/?
How does your /etc/network/interfaces look like?
Has network-manager worked for you before?
