a -dbg package would have been useful, to have more chances to reproduce the bug right after the 
report... I'll recompile

I couldn't find a clear pattern, but I think that stopping network-manager tinkering with the wlan0 
card, then restarting NM seems to favour it.

Yes, to an AP at home using WPA PSK2, wired, I even was able to connect to that same AP in the past. 
I am sorry for now knowing exact details, but I will look tomorrow.
