Add 
	[ifupdown]
	managed=true
to /etc/NetworkManager/nm-system-settings.conf.

With that it's all working fine now.


Since the "bug" I reported is really a kind of incompatibility between
gnome-network-admin and network-manager-gnome, I'll retitle and leave
the bug open for further discussion on how to improve that.
