Thanks for the info.

It's a known issue, see [1] for example.

As you are using a straight forward static configuration, you can try the 0.7
packages from experimental and use the managed mode. (Read the README.Debian
file of network-manager).

You have to add
[ifupdown]
managed=true

to /etc/NetworkManager/nm-system-settings.conf and run
sudo killall nm-system-settings.
