Sorry for my mistake. The kernel is not at fault it was wpasupplicant
0.6.2+git20080206.g8c0dad4-1 . Downgrading to 0.6.1~git20071119-1 indeed
fixes the issue (with both 2.6.23 and 2.6.24). (though it still affects only the dbus interface). I
don't know how I mistested the different downgrade I made beforehand but
I was wrong.
