Thanks for the explanation.

It's not unusual for people to run customised kernels, so this
additional requirement should be documented.
/usr/share/doc/avahi-daemon/README currently says only that Linux 2.4 or
2.6 is required.

Default Linux Capabilities are set in the kernel Security Options.
