Since the 0.5.11 RC versions of hal it includes a prober to query some caps of
v4l devices. Using the standard linux ioctl's. I wonder if that's causing your
problem. Can you install ivtv-utils and run v4l2-ctl -D on your v4l device ? I
wonder if that gives you the same problem
