Could you build hal with debug symbols to get a more complete debug log?
We had crashes in the past, where the fdi cache was corrupt. So you might try to
delete /var/cache/hald/fdi-cache (make a copy of this file, in case we need to
debug this further).
Also, what kernel are you using (i.e. bug reports via reportbug are very
appreciated)
