[Pkg-utopia-maintainers] postinstallation

Hello,

This is the first time I have to contact Debian-developpers directly.  
Until now I were able to solve problems myzelf, or with a little help  
from google.

The subject of the problem is hal. A few dist-upgrades ago the  
hal-upgrade routine returns a postinstallation script error. The  
version I have installed now is 0.5.11-8, together with libhal-storage  
0.5.11-8 and libhal1. dpkg -l | grep hal gives me

iF  hal            0.5.11-8       Hardware Abstraction Layer

suggesting the packages has been half-configured. Except for the error  
message itself, it also causes some programms (eg gparted) to not  
being installed at all, and I expect vlc to crash so regularly because  
of the hal configuration.

Could you give me a clue what to do to solve this?
