Package: network-manager
Version: 0.6.6-3
Severity: important
I can duplicate this. I come back from hibernation or restore
from suspend into gnome. I am just out of range of wireless,
so the network manager applet automatically tries DHCP. This
locks up the panel, which locks up gnome, so the first time
I thought something had crashed, so I tried to reboot. While
shutting down, after network manager service said it stopped
on the console, when ACPI turned off the wireless (iwl3945,
Intel PRO/W 3945ABG [Golan] rev 02), the system crashed.
Unfortunately syslog and klogd services had already stopped.
The normal timeout that one would expect from DHCP passed,
but the machine did not turn off. fsck was required on
reboot. Then, the wireless light would not turn on, and
the panel and gnome locked up again when I logged in, even
after DHCP attempts in syslog timed out. I was able to
stop network-manager and network-manager dispatcher, then
rmmod iwl3945 and mac80211, modprobe iwl3945, and start
network manager, and it worked, trying the wireless
connection again and successfully timing out due to being
out of range.
