After upgrading knetworkmanager to 0.7.1-1 is not able to initiate an openvpn 
connection any more.

The problem may be that there is no way to set the private key password. The
previous version worked fine however. Even now I can open a 2nd X session in
gnome and connect in which case syslog shows:
