makes the problem appear again. Downgrading to older D-BUS and/or GLib
components (as suggested in
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=537572#10) didn't
help either.

To summarize, this regression was introduced with
gnome-settings-daemon 2.24.1-1 and is still present with current
Squeeze gnome-settings-daemon 2.28.1-3.

How can I help further? It would be nice if this issue could be fixed
in forthcoming GNOME settings daemon 2.30/3.0.
