Some more information.
The first mail was using slim, CK launched from 90consolekit.
I've tried with:
gdm (CK launched by gdm): working
console (CK launched by pam-connector): working
startx (CK launched by pam-connector): working
startx (CK launched by 90consolekit/ck-launch-session): not working
So I guess the problem is really in ck-launch-session. I've tried with
xfce4-session (4.7.0) and openbox, and in both cases the session is not
“local” and not “is-active”.
Cheers,
