I have just been bitten by this. This is a regression from squeeze and
seems to me to be a critical bug ("makes unrelated software on the
system (or the whole system) break").

I understand that I can uninstall network-manager (and this is what I
will do next), but anybody that is naive enough (like me) to install the
"gnome" package on their system and have a static IP configuration done
during the install (not an uncommon scenario, I would think), will have
this problem.

I think this should be fixed before release.
