Dear Maintainers:
A network issue on my HP Pavilion Dv74170us laptop causes the computer
to lock when the built-in physical wireless switch is used to turn off
the wireless connection.
If the wireless connection is off on last usage, the system locks when
Debian/Squeeze starts up. The last 3 start up items in order are
Network Manager, Hardware Abstraction Layer, and Virtual Private
Network. The computer completely locks and must be restarted using the
power switch.
When in KDE (network-manager-kde is installed) and the physical
wireless switch is used to turn off the built-in wireless connection,
the computer also completely locks and must be using the power switch.
Since I do not know if network-manager 0.8.1-6+sq, network-manager-kde
1:0.9-svn1, network-manager-vpnc 0.8.1-1, network-manager-openvpn
0.8.1-1, or openvpn 2.1.3-2 are involved in this issue, I do not know
what else to report or whom to report this issue to.
The short story is that something is not correctly responding to the
state of the built-in physical wireless hardware. As long as the
physical wireless switch is turned on, there is no problem at start up
or within KDE. Otherwise, the computer completely locks.
As for the wired Ethernet connection, I had to manually edit the
NetworkManager.conf file to set manage = true. I noticed bugs reports
on this and multiple forum posts to fix this problem in this way. I
just wanted to report that the problem still happens.
Since I am not knowledgeable enough yet to know which log files to
offer, reporting in this way is all that I know to do to help. If you
never read this post, I just hope that others with the correct
knowledge can report the problem correctly so it can be fixed.
Thank you for your amazing contribution to Debian.
