OK. Great. I did wonder if that check was really necesary (or if
there was not a better way), but elected not to deal with the issue in
that way myself.

OK. I can only really check things that are packaged because that's
how all the machinery for dependencies works, and it's usually the
packaging, rather than upsteam, that breaks things. The above repo
doesn't seem to have a debian dir. I looked at
git://git.debian.org/git/pkg-utopia/consolekit.git but that was no
newer than 0.4.5-3. And I tried the 'upstream' brnach at that
location, but same thing (last update may 20 2011).

I don't know how to merge the real upstream with the current packaging
in git-foo and suspect that it won't be entirely trivial.

Give me something to pull that has latest stuff and a debian dir and
I'll test it.
