Right now : not accessible, system is located a fair distance away.  Will post later when I can get physical access.  System is offline until then.
Note: all IPs are static in /etc/network/interfaces.  I can't post it because system is not currently accessible.

Final lines on ssh log:  (copied by hand)
Disabling interfaces configured with plain DHCP in /etc/network/interfaces so that NetworkManager can take them over
Auto interfaces found: lo eth1 eth1 tun6to4
Starting network connection manager: NetworkManager
Setting up network-manager-gnome (0.9.2.0-1) ...
Write failed: broken pipe
