Package: network-manager
Version: 0.9.2.0-2
Severity: important
I'm unable to do anything interesting with NetworkManager unless I kill nm-applet and re-launch it as root. I get errors such as:
** (nm-applet:2460): WARNING **: VPN Connection activation failed: (org.freedesktop.NetworkManager.PermissionDenied) Not authorized to control networking.
and
** (nm-applet:2460): WARNING **: Failed to add new connection: (32) Not authorized to control networking.
This wasn't always the case, but I can't pinpoint exactly when the problem started.
A Google search suggests that I should add myself to either the 'network' or 'netdev' group. But there is no 'network' group, and I'm already a member of 'netdev'.
The groups of which I'm a member are:
dialout cdrom floppy sudo plugdev games users bluetooth netdev powerdev
My user account is the only one on the system, and the one created by the Debian installer. If network-manager isn't broken, then the install/setup process is. There's no user on the system other than root who can use the icon in the tray.
