The lack of gnome-keyring, if it's needed for network-manager to work,
would be a debian-cd bug. I see network-manager recommends it. My
installation was from CD w/o network, so if the recommend was left off
the CD, it won't get installed. (Of course if the program is crashing
w/o it, a recommend may be too weak a relationship.)

I have attached the (system) network connection file as it appeared
after the crash and before I went in and manually added a password to it
using the connection editor.

You don't seem to have debugging symbols for nm-applet packaged. I don't have
time to do a debug build while in this location right now. If this doesn't
help, I will be back here in a week and can try then with debug symbols.
