This was a deliberate change afaics:

Using UPowerGlib.Client.new() seems indeed to be the way to go.

Maxy, should we reassign the bug back to cinnamon-settings?

I've checked codesearch.debian.net and cinnamon-settings seems to be the
only package which is affected.
