I've now tested this version:

if [ -x /usr/sbin/avahi-autoipd ] && /usr/sbin/avahi-autoipd -c $interface; then                                                                                                                                                       
        /usr/sbin/avahi-autoipd -k $interface 2> /dev/null                                                                                                                                                                             
fi                                                                                                                                                                                                                                     

And can confirm it works for me. Patch against git attached,
assuming you want to upload this yourself. (NMU should be cancelled.)
