This has been adressed upstream but there's no new upstream release
containing these fixes yet as far as I could see. I thus cherry-picked
the patch that was needed to switch to python3 during build/tests and
also cherry-picked a patch that fixed the FTBFS (which was already filed
in a separate bug report).

See the salsa MR for both fixes.
