You appreciate that both the restoration of the init script and use of 
the logind virtual package are both essential for network-manager to be 
installable on non-systemd systems?

AFAIAA there isn't any other way of enabling that; nor are there any 
problems that this enabling work will have for systemd systems.

Am I incorrect in either regard?
