As part of the upgrade process, the NetworkManager.service is restarted.
My guess is, that plasma-nm does not properly reconnect when 
NetworkManager.service is restarted and you need to logout/login.

You can try to reproduce the issue by running
sudo systemctl restart NetworkManager.service
