It was never my intention to push the burden of this upstream.

I was surprised by that, but it's somewhat similar to the situation
that most times the cron job names match the systemd timers;
but not always...

So I asked that as a courtesy, not something that is
enforced by some Policy

It can but that makes it slower. It will call "dpkg -S" repeatedly.

BTW calling "cruft <some-dynamic-file>" works exactly
like dpkg -S that would had been tought about volatile files.

It is slower than real "dpkg -S" but still bearable.
