Possible, yes, but since I do not consider this bug release critical I 
will not bother myself and the release team with persuading them to 
consider it.

I am however not against others helping out by taking on that task: You 
need not be formal member of Debian to involve yourself with the 
development of Debian, including this process of getting a bugfixed 
package in unstable excempted from the freeze blocking its entering 
testing.  If you are new to interacting with the release team then a 
good starting point seems to be https://wiki.debian.org/DebianReleaseFAQ
