Yep, I'd like the team to keep the packages in sync as close as possible, 
but for now it seems that vdr needs some patches to make me happy. I 
understand if you don't want to include patches in Debian that aren't yet 
in upstream, but I hope you'll understand if some are included in Ubuntu, 
at least support for subtitles since that's practically essential for me 
and all the (yet potential) users in Finland :)

Yes, we discussed with Tobias some of the issues like burn-plugin 
dependencies, projectx and stuff.

ps. just for the record; I'm using vdr since last February, now I have a 
Technotrend C2100 and C1500 with a 3.5" CI+Conax (no card though..) in a 
Antec Fusion case. My parents "ordered" a mostly similar setup from me, 
so that should indicate how good vdr is :)
