The call you reported ({t:'o';sz:8}) looks like AUDIO_SET_BYPASS_MODE.
This is being used only in the av7110 driver for the SAA7146 based DVB
cards. But I have no idea where to look for the reason this doesn't work
for you - my knowledge of the kernel-internals is very limited.
This should probably be better asked to the kernel maintainers or on the
linux-media mailinglist.
