hmm - iirc, it hardcodes the value.  Perhaps it (like rxvt) sets $COLORTERM,
which xterm does not do.  I recall some discussion from people who made a
workable wrapper script which used that check.

For grins, I noticed about a year ago that gnome-terminal and konsole
(using vttest) report a firmware version of 111.5 and 11.5 respectively. 
The latter is simply cut/paste copying from xterm, but few people are
running xterm patch #115 any more.
