Through some further testing I've found that the mere act of defining a
vmap for <C-c> (even if you immediately undefine it) causes <C-c> to
work just like <Esc> when doing a visual block insert.  I've emailed
upstream to notify them of the problem.  If I have time (and upstream
doesn't deliver a patch before I do), I'll look into whether I can make
a patch to fix this.
