The binary in the vim package doesn't connect to X.  "$(readlink -f
/usr/bin/vim)" will tell you which binary (and therefore which package)
it actually was.

Once you know the package, if you have debian-goodies installed, could
you run "which-pkg-broke vim-XXX"?  It sounds like this may be related
to a recent upgrade you performed.
