Hi

The Asteerisk tarball currently contains an rpm spec and there is a
makefile target 'rpm' for building an rpm package.

Kevin has experessed interest in making it similarly easy to create a
deb of the current code (e.g: from HEAD). Currently our packages do map
rather nicely to Asterisk CVS packages (because they are based on them).
I'm already working on adapting the build process and patches and hope
to get some sort of daily build debs soon.

One problem I see with that is that including a debian/ subdirectory in
the CVS will break the assumptions of standard debian build process that
assumes the debian diff only adds files to /debian .

Any better thoughts?

I was thinking more along the lines of giving end users the ability to
create their own .debs (like make-kpkg does for the kernel) so they can
make a zaptel/asterisk build and install their binaries on
other/multiple systems without requiring development tools on those systems.
